TILLER, Ore. -- A Tiller woman was arraigned on assault charges today, accused of beating her elderly neighbor with a flashlight.
Police say it happened around 6:30 p.m., Dec. 22, on South Umpqua Road. Leta Allen, 54, was arrested for assault a few hours later.
According to court documents, Agness Campbell, 94, was left bruised and bloodied by the attack. Deputies say Allen initially blamed a bearded man for the attack, claiming the man broke into Campbell's house.
But, according to officials, Campell told police that Allen was the one who attacked her.
Deputies say they spoke to Campbell before she was taken by air ambulance to the hospital. They say she told them Allen came to her house to deliver cookies. She said she had no idea why Allen began beating her.
Campbell also reported that Allen had a handgun.
