They took a free defense class at a TNT Martial Arts in Hillsboro. The idea for taking the class was to prepare themselves for the worst and to train just in case anything were to happen at their schools.

The owner and martial arts and self-defense instructor, Mark Gajdoftik showed them how to handle different situations.

"I want people to know they can take action,” he said, “You don't need a tool belt full of equipment and you don't need any crazy specialty training."

He said the key is to make the classroom a difficult target and to give everyone in the classroom a task.

Instead of just running and hiding, the teachers learned easy techniques and strategies to keep their students safe. They hope to share what they learned with others.
