to the tracks. k through 8th grade students in monroe are on an extended summer vacation. school was supposed to start last wednesday but it's now been pushed back to monday. kezi 9 news reporter michael sevren shows us why construction crews are taking longer than expected. stand up: for many schools already started but at monroe grade school... construction workers are still hard at work while teachers and staffs are getting ready. sot: next week i'm going to be in school, but i'm supposed to be in school tomorrow. 8 year old holden campbell is eagerly waiting to start the third grade. but right now? there are consturction workers inside the school, not students. crews have been working since mid june doing seismic upgrades? and adding five additional classrooms during phase 2 of a ?phase project. dave harris with gerding builders says the delays are not unexpected. he says with the construction boom it's taking longer to get the materials they need. sot we're on our 9th week of work and they usually have a 12 week lead time. so we're actually pretty lucky with what we got and what we are working. superintendent bill crowson says starting school on the 17th will give crews time to make the campus safer by installing doors and give teachers and staff time to move their stuff in. he says they're not sure how they will make up the lost days. sot: we are looking at the hours and what not right now as we speak so we'll look at that and see where we are at. obviously we want to provide our kids with a good education and make sure they have the time that they need so we'll be looking at how we can adjust later down the road holden's mom audrina wants someone to take responsibility for the delay and wants gerding builders to be held accountable for missing their deadlines. sot: i have to keep breaking it to my 8 year old, sorry kiddo, school is not starting yet, school is not starting yet, i know you where excited to go to school tomorrow and it's not happening, if you go back on monday i still have no idea, so he's getting really frustrated he
