NEW YORK, N.Y.– After a Biletnikoff Award-winning and Pac-12 record-setting season, Oregon State star wide receiver Brandin Cooks was selected 20th overall by the New Orleans Saints in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Cooks is the first 1st-round draft pick from Oregon State since Steven Jackson went 24th overall to St. Louis in 2004. Cooks is also the highest-drafted Beaver since Terry Baker was the No. 1 pick in 1963.
The Stockton, Calif. native left Corvallis after his true junior season in which he caught school and conference record 128 passes for 1, 730 yards and 16 touchdowns, adding two more rushing scores.
In December, Cooks joined Mike Hass (2005) as the only Beavers to win the Biletnikoff Award, given to the best wide receiver in college football. Coincidentally, Hass was also drafted by New Orleans the year after winning the Biletnikoff.
The NFL Draft coverage continues throughout the weekend. The second round is Friday, with television coverage beginning at 4 p.m. PST on ESPN and NFL Network. Saturday broadcasts begin at 9 a.m. PST.
