Coos Bay Motorcyclist Dies in Crash

CHARLESTON, Ore. — A motorcyclist died after crashing head-on into a pickup truck Sunday afternoon.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. Sunday on West Beaver Hill Road between Charleston and Bandon.

Derrill Dickerson, 64, is from Emery, South Dakota but currently lives in Coos Bay. He was on his way to Charleston when he tried to go around a curve and crashed head-on into a pickup truck that was towing a trailer. He died at the scene.

The truck driver, Manuel Calvillo, 45, of Roseburg, and his passenger were not injured.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
