Corvallis Firefighters Raise $13,000

firefightersCORVALLIS, Ore. — A group of Corvallis firefighters are just getting back from an annual trip that raises money to fight cancer.

Eighteen hundred firefighters from around the world competed in this weekend’s Scott Firefighter Stairclimb in Seattle.

The Corvallis Fire Department raised more than $13,000. Sixty-nine stories high–that’s how much each one had to climb in complete fire gear.

On Tuesday morning, one of the lieutenants saw a thank you note from a woman who is battling cancer.

“To me, I’ll never meet this lady,” said Lt. Rob Yencopal with the Corvallis Fire Department. “But it’s exciting. It gets me excited to go back next year. It’s a fundraiser first.”

Even though it’s a race among the firefighters, the goal is to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
