Corvallis House Fire Damages Roof

CORVALLIS, Ore. — A house fire broke out in Corvallis Tuesday afternoon.

The fire on Northwest Bittersweet Place had nearby streets closed off for a few hours. The fire department says at one point the roof was completely engulfed in flames.

Neighbors say they rushed over as soon as they saw the flames to help.

“I went to the bathroom, looked out the window, thought I heard water, and there was a giant fire,” said neighbor Porter Livingston.

“He came running into the house, telling me just to grab a bucket,” said Livingston’s friend Zbyszek Sikora. “And then he ran out with the hose, and I ran out with the bucket. We started spraying down the trees, then we grabbed the hose from out front too. So we had two hoses going on the trees and on the house to try to stop it from spreading.”

The two friends helped hose down the flames until the fire department came to the scene. Fire officials don’t know yet what caused the fire.
