Corvallis Man Arrested Twice in One Day

Shane StearnsCorvallis, Ore.  — A Corvallis man found himself back in jail on Saturday for the second time, after he had been released on other charges.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office arrested 23-year-old Shane Stearns early Saturday for numerous charges, including Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest, and the Attempted Assault of a Public Safety Officer.

Stearns was released from the jail the same day, but was arrested again that afternoon. Just after 2:30 pm, Corvallis Police arrested Stearns for two separate hit and runs among other charges.

Police say as he was turning from SW 2nd Street onto SW Madison Avenue, he clipped a pedestrian’s arm who suffered minor injuries. Police say he fled the scene and crashed into a building on the 700 block of SW 10th Street. Police say he fled from there, and they later arrested him at his home.

Stearns was arraigned at the Benton County Circuit Court on Monday and will appear back in court next month.
