COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. — Cottage Grove celebrated the grand opening of a new park with an old tradition.
Bohemia Park was built right off 10th and Main Streets. While another park is just down the street, the newly created 13-acre space has its very own stage.
On Saturday, the 4th Annual Oregon Covered Bridge Festival took over for some fun and games, including, Punkin Chunkin.
“It really is about bringing an awareness to the covered bridges and the economic impact that they have in our state and really the beauty and the iconic value and nature of the bridges,” said Kristin Sanger, Committee Vice-President.
At one point, there were 600 of these bridges across Oregon. Now, there are only 51 left. Six are in Cottage Grove, which makes it the covered bridge capital of the state.
