Parents Chase Suspected Abductor

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. — Police are praising parents who chased a man they thought was trying to kidnap their children.

The family was putting up Christmas lights when a man with a blanket approached their young children. The dad confronted the man and then chased him down the street. Police used a K-9 unit to help track down the suspect.

“He took off running and then we called the cops and it’s pretty crazy. It happened so fast that it was unreal,” said mother Haylie Hume.

“The description they gave us was right on the mark. They remained calm, a matter of fact they did a fantastic job of giving us information and staying on the line with 9-1-1,” said Officer Doug Skaggs, Cottage Grove Police Department.

Police do not think the man was trying to abduct the children. They say he was drunk and have charged him with disorderly conduct and trespassing. But they say the parents did the right thing.
