Council to Discuss OSU Levy Involvement

CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Corvallis City Council is meeting Tuesday night to discuss whether to keep Oregon State University in its current tax levy plan.

Last month the council voted on proposed services that voters will see on the November ballot.

One proposal adds four extra police officers if OSU pays for one officer’s salary. But the university says it didn’t know about the proposal and says it already contributes enough to the community.

“We’ve done what was asked of the university and shouldn’t have been surprised about this–to pay for something that we don’t have the authority to use state education monies or tuition funds for,” said Steve Clark, Vice President of University Relations and Marketing.

The council meets Tuesday night at 6 p.m. at the Corvallis Public Library.
