The deadline is now Jan. 6. But there is a hitch. The deadline has been extended from Dec. 27 to Jan. 6 for people who are already eligible for coverage and hit the Dec. 4 application deadline.
Cover Oregon Spokesman Michael Cox says the extension applies to as many as 45,000 people who are eligible for coverage through the exchange. Organizers at Cover Oregon say they just wanted to give everyone a chance to get coverage by Jan. 1.
“Those Oregonians who qualified for coverage beginning Jan. 1 had a little bit more time to choose their plan. We know the shopping experience can take a little bit of time and wanted to give folks that extra bit of time they might need,” Cox said.
For applicants who pick a plan by 5 p.m. Jan. 6, their coverage will be backdated to Jan. 1.
Cox says for those who missed the Dec. 4 deadline, their coverage would most likely begin Feb. 1.
