MEDFORD, Ore. — Those who waited until the last minute to apply for health insurance through Cover Oregon got a big break Wednesday, and local officials said they’ve already seen an impact.
On Wednesday, the federal government approved a request to extend the deadline for health care from the end of March to the end of April. Local Cover Oregon community partners said over the past few weeks there has been a big push from those who had waited. Now, those who thought they wouldn’t get covered have a second chance.
“We were hearing from folks who had basically signed off. They said, ‘We just had so much going on. We didn’t think that we could make it, but now that we have an extra monthly essentially. Let’s make an appointment,’” said Cover Oregon community partner Michelle Glass.
Cover Oregon officials still encourage Oregonians to get their applications in as soon as possible to avoid another last-minute push.
