MEDFORD, Ore. — The challenged Cover Oregon is causing another headache for insurance agents that helped enroll people in coverage.
Cover Oregon agents were responsible for enrolling more than a 20 percent of the people who came in through the exchange. The agents are due commission negotiated with Cover Oregon, usually a percentage of a customer’s premiums.
But of the total $1.4 million due to agents, only about $600,000 has been paid. One southern Oregon agent says his company is getting about $25 a month. When they should be getting $3,000 to $4,000.
“We’ve got other irons in the fire that keep the office going, keep the lights on. So it’s not 100 percent of our business, it just took up 100 percent of our time during that period,” said David Cuttrell, Cover Oregon Agent.
Cover Oregon says the delay is due to difficulties linking each enrollee with the agent who signed them up. It says it has a team working on the problem and will pay each agent what they’re due on a rolling basis.
