CRESWELL, Ore. — On Monday, Creswell City Councilors could not agree whether or not to have residents foot the bill to fund a third deputy. The ordinance would charge residents 6 dollars every month. But the ordinance failed because the vote was not unanimous. Four councilors were in favor of it and 2 were opposed to it.
The city added the deputy last year after a spike in property crimes in the area. They have been paying the deputy with one time contingency funds.
Those funds have almost run out and Creswell does not have the money to fund the position for the next fiscal year.
In two weeks, council members will vote on the ordinance again and only a majority of votes is needed for it to pass.
