Crews Contain Two-Acre Fire in Florence

FLORENCE, Ore. — Firefighters responded to a two-acre fire on the South Jetty, Tuesday night.

Around 10 p.m., firefighters from the Siuslaw Valley Rural Fire Department, Siuslaw National Forest, and the Oregon Department of Forestry responded to a fire reported on the jetty near the sand dunes. The fire was burning in the brush and grasses. Fire crews contained the fire around 2 a.m.

According to officials, the fire appears to be human caused and remains under investigation.

“Most of the fires on the Siuslaw National Forest are human caused,” said Dan Eddy, Fire Management Office for the Siuslaw National Forest Spokesman. “We want people to please be aware and fire safe in the woods and on the beaches.”

The Siuslaw National Forest moved the fire danger level to high on Monday.
