Crews Prep Field for Pre Classic

Hayward FieldEUGENE, Ore. — Hayward Field was being transformed into a world class track venue Thursday.

The Prefontaine Classic starts Friday.

Nike was already there setting up, and volunteers put up signs and prepared the field for the three-day event.

Some of the best athletes in the world will be competing until Sunday. Many are already in Eugene to prepare for their event and get their first taste of Tracktown U.S.A.

“They will start trickling in today, come into Hayward, get out. For a lot of athletes sometimes this is their first trip here, so not only do you want to get use to the track but see the shrine of Hayward,” said Jeff Oliver, Prefontaine Classic Press Chief.

Organizers say last year the Pre Classic was rated as the number one invitational track meet in the world. Tickets are still available.
