Fire Burns at Smucker Pelleting

HARRISBURG, Ore. — Fire crews responded to calls of a warehouse fire burning on Powerline Rd. in Harrisburg. The first calls came in just after 6:35 a.m. Wednesday.

Fire officials say many firefighters, from Eugene to Brownsville, responded to the fire at Smucker Pelleting, a manufacturing plant that makes feed pellets for livestock.

They say one building is a total loss. Other buildings are threatened by the fire, so firefighters are trying to prevent the fire from spreading to those buildings.

Because this is a non-hydrant area, firefighters say they have to shuttle water back and forth from elsewhere, including from Muddy Creek.

Firefighters say they will probably will be out there all day.
