EUGENE, Ore. — Eugene Marathon runners got an extra boost of energy from Sunday’s crowds. They say that of all the things they did to give to prepare, it was the energy and support of all the fans lining the street that gave them a second wind.
The Eugene Marathon drew thousands of supporters, who came to cheer on the athletes. Fans offered encouragement to the runners as they traveled 26.2 miles throughout the city.
With cow bells in hand, supporters cheered on the athletes as they ran the last .2 miles towards the finish line at Hayward Field.
Runners say the encouragement was a welcomed distraction from the enduring run. Some runners said they ran a faster race thanks to all the extra energy and support.
