Dance Teams Compete at Thurston H.S.

3-1 dance competitionSPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Dance teams from all over Oregon were at Thurston High School Saturday competing for a spot in the state competition.

Teams need a score of 65 points to qualify for the final round of the state competition. If they don’t make that score, they’ll have to compete in a qualifying round instead.

Sixteen teams were hopeful Saturday would be the day they’d get that qualifying score.

“Marshfield High School’s here, Bandon. We do have actually a couple Portland teams as well. Valley Catholic is down here as well, some of the Salem schools. So it’s really sixteen teams from all over the area. There’s some local schools Willamette, North Eugene, Churchill,” said McKenzie Smith, Thurston High School dance team coach.

The competition wrapped up around 7:00 p.m. Saturday.
