EUGENE, Ore. — Congressman Peter DeFazio helped register University of Oregon student voters Wednesday.
Students trained the congressman in how to newly-register students. He then helped run the campus voter drive, and then canvassed the campus street fair with a group of students.
Congressman DeFazio says college students should have a role in major elections.
“It’s imperative that young people vote. There’s a lot of critical issues that will be decided by this election,” DeFazio said.
“We’re the big new generation, so it’s really important that we do have a big say in our general elections and our primaries,” said UO freshman Madisen McBride.
UO has already registered more than 7,000 students to vote. A total of 41,000 students have been registered to vote in the state.
