Dentist Buying Halloween Candy

CORVALLIS, Ore. — It’s called Dollar$, Not Decay! Anyone can bring their candy to a Corvallis dentist on Friday to get $2 back for every pound.

Timberhill Dental in Corvallis is hosting the event on Friday from 1 – 4 p.m. Dentist Kurt Black says his goal is to educate kids about tooth decay and obesity.

“We do our candy buyback to get the candy out of circulation so to speak to promote good health and to give the kids a chance to bring it back for something of substance,” Black said.

For every dollar the office gives to kids, it will also match it to Safe Haven Humane Society in Albany.

“Let’s say we collect a thousand pounds for instance,” Black said. “We’ll be giving $2,000 away to the participants in the event, and then we’ll match that $2,000 donation to a charitable organization.”

Over the last 11 years, the office has collected over two tons worth of candy. The candy goes on display in the front office windows each year, then is discarded in phases. Last year the office purchased over 960 pounds of candy.

Timberhill Dental is located at 2356 NW Professional Dr. in Corvallis.

My friend was just telling me how she does this with her kids every year. I have never heard about it before but I wan to have my kids do this. I think they rather take the money and buy a toy that will last longer than candy will anyway.
