MONROE, Ore. – The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation into a shooting incident Sunday.
Around 5:37 p.m. deputies were dispatched to the 27000 block of Reese Creek Road, for a woman with a gunshot wound.
When they arrived they found Gale Fogelstrom, 60, of Monroe with two gunshot wounds. Medics treated her for her injuries, which they dertermined were not life threatening. Fogelstrom was taken by REACH helicopter to Good Samaritan Hospital.
Investigators say Fogelstrom was walking along Reese Creek Road from her home to get a newspaper from a newspaper box, when she heard about 40 rounds of ammunition being fired. As she was walking back to her home, she was struck by two bullets. She continued to walk home before being picked up by motorist who drove her the rest of the way. When she got home her boyfriend called 911.
Investigators spoke with nearby residents Jeffery Field, 47, and Lena Potter, 37, who said they had been target practicing on their property at the time Fogelstrom was shot. They had been shooting down a heavily forested hill. Reese Creek Road is about 100 yards directly below the hill. They were unaware anyone had been struck by gunfire.
Deputies were able to recover the two handguns and ammunition from Field and Potter. No arrests were made and the investigation is ongoing.
