LOS CABOS, Mexico — A Lane County sheriff’s deputy and his wife are in critical but stable condition after they were victims of a hit-and-run.
It happened while Deputy Drew Wattier and his wife, Michelle, were on vacation in Los Cabos, Mexico. Witnesses saw the couple get hit by a vehicle outside their hotel.
Sgt. Carrie Carver says Deputy Wattier has been with the sheriff’s office for more than a decade. She says he’s a staple in the community and in his line of work.
“This has been extremely hard on everyone in the agency. What we’ve tried to do is instill the support mechanisms here, at the jail, for peopel coming in an working a variety of shifts to make sure that they’re okay,” Carver said.
An assistance fund for the family is set up at SELCO Community Credit Union.
