EUGENE, Ore. — Lane county and people across the nation are bringing attention to those with developmental disabilities this month. Back in 1987, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed March as “Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.”
People like Darci Harris and her co-workers say this month is important to helping this demographic achieve the normal lives they so desire.
Lane County Developmental Disabilities Services Program Manager Andrea Muzikant says, “They’re just like everyone else. They have goals, strengths. They want to be productive citizens of society and basically, we should recognize everyone in our community.”
The county offers many services and resources for those with developmental disabilities and those who help care for them. To find out more, click here.
