Dispute Leads to Stabbing, Crash

Police-Lights 2SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — A man is in custody, accused of stabbing another man and stealing his car.

Police say it started around 9:45 p.m. Sunday. They say 30-year-old Brian Carlson was arguing with a man in front of a home in the 100 block of South 67th Street.

They say Carlson stabbed the victim, 45-year-old Marlon J. Smith of Eugene, three times in the abdomen and then drove off with the man’s car. He crashed it at South 67th and Aster, then went home to get his own car.

Police say his car ran out of gas near South 79th and Main. Police found him about an hour and a half later.
