Dogs Walk in First Local Bark for Life

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — Man’s best friend paraded around the track at Springfield High School Sunday as part of a new Relay for Life fundraiser.

Around 50 dogs ran, walked,= or slowly trotted around the track for two hours during the first Bark for Life. It’s a fundraiser that shows appreciation for canine companionship, all while raising money for the American Cancer Society.

Bark for Life raised $5,000 for Relay for Life. Event organizers said they expect it to grow each year.

“Bark for Life is all over the nation, they have them all over. The Relay for Life here is the sixth largest relay in the world, and so it just sounded like a good idea and might as well bring it. We have enough supporters and everybody loves dogs,” said one participant.

Some of Springfield’s most notable pooches joined in on the fun, including the firehouse dalmatian and a K-9 officer.
