Dragon Boat Race Practices Begin

dragon boat practiceEUGENE, Ore. — Lane County is hosting its first ever dragon boat race next month, and some contestants got a headstart Monday with paddle practice.

Competitors were taught how to paddle a dragon boat at the Amazon Pool.

The event will raise money for local veterans who were injured in military conflict.

The city of Eugene’s adaptive recreation services says the idea was sparked by different proposals brought up last year, and this was a great combination.

“It ended up being a perfect storm of ideas where we were able to bring the two focuses together. Interestingly enough, we’re going to be having a couple veterans teams participate in the event,” said Andy Fernandez with the City of Eugene.

The race will happen July 19 at Dexter Lake.
