WINCHESTER, Ore. – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says one man was arrested following a high-speed chase that ended in a crash Monday.
Around 2:30 p.m. a deputy attempted to stop a 1993 Lincoln on Page Road near the Winchester Elementary School. The vehicle did not stop and a pursuit began.
The vehicle speed down Page Road and continued onto Elmar Drive. As the deputy rounded a corner on Elmar Drive, he encountered the vehicle backing up at a high rate of speed. The deputy stopped but the suspect rammed the patrol car and then sped off. A few minutes later the suspect vehicle turned up a driveway where it became high centered.
The deputy was able to hold the suspect until backup arrived.
The driver, Brian Baird, was taken into custody. He’s lodged in the Douglas County Jail on charges of attempt to elude, reckless driving, recklessly endangering, hit and run, criminal mischief, unlawful possession and delivery of methamphetamine and two outstanding warrants.
