Duck Fan Rakes Leaves into “O”

EUGENE, Ore. — It started as one Duck fan’s fall tradition, but he hopes it will become a citywide trend.

Every year, Randy Rodgers rakes the leaves on his front lawn into a big Oregon “O”. He and his son started doing it back in 2001, and now he has even loftier ambitions for his lawn-art.

“I already have friends that have lots of leaves. We’ll build one so big that Google Earth can pick it up and show that Duck fans are behind the Yell O,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers hopes that this idea will catch on with other duck fans across Eugene.

He says the trick is to do it after the rain when the leaves are wet. They stick together better that way. It doesn’t take as long as you might think. This year, he finished in just 12 minutes.
