Duck Race Winner Donates Prize

EUGENE, Ore. — A necklace, originally a prize from the Great Rotary Duck Race, is now helping out another cause.

Georgia Layton was one of the lucky ducks, walking away with a jewelry set worth $5,000.

Layton says she doesn’t wear a lot of jewelry and works in a pre-school classroom all day. So now she’s donating her necklace to the nonprofit Early Education Program. The group helps children with disabilities.

“What I want to do is I want to provide some additional support for our program, and I thought, ‘Hey, I’ve got this wonderful thing and I’m not going to benefit from it as much as our program,'” Layton said.

Layton will hold an auction for the necklace, and the money raised will go toward the education program.
