Ducks in the Desert: Fans Celebrate Win

GLENDALE, Ariz. — As you’d expect, the fans are ecstatic.

A lot of them traveled to the University of Phoenix Stadium two years ago, expecting a win and leaving with a loss. So Thursday night’s victory was almost cathartic.

With a few minutes left in the game, Oregon fans were up out of their seats–cheering. Kansas fans were up out of their seats too–leaving.

The clock ticked down and the Duck fans got rowdier and rowdier, encouraged by the Duck. He tossed Tostitos at people decked out in yellow and green before deciding the game was a lock and it was time for a nap. But for the fans, it was just too much adrenaline for them.

Of course, all Duck fans agree on that. Everyone we talked to also picked the same favorite play–the kickoff return by De’Anthony Thomas.

Well, all but one. Offensive lineman Ryan Clanton’s parents said watching their son come over to them was their favorite play. They helped him celebrate the ‘W’ even though other moms and dads admit the victory is bittersweet. For some team members, it was their last game together.

But what a way to end the season.

As excited as Duck fans were to get that ‘W’ Thursday night, there’s still a little apprehensive about the future of the program and whether Chip Kelly will be here next season.
