EUGENE, Ore. — Dungeness Crab fishermen will have to wait a little while longer to get to work this year. Commercial crab season has been delayed through Dec. 30.
Dungeness Crab season usually starts on Dec. 1, but the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife can delay it if there are concerns about over-harvesting or the quality of the product.
Since testing showed some areas weren’t meeting minimum criteria, fishery managers decided to delay the opening just a little while longer. Recreational crabbing remains open.
