OAKRIDGE, Ore. — The congregation at the First Baptist Church in Oakridge is going through waves of emotions because of personal ties to the Philippines.

It sent out a missionary team last Wednesday, arriving just before the storm.

Pastor Bob Yoder says the church was originally headed there to partner with other churches but quickly changed their agenda to help with disaster relief.

Concerns grew at first, because families weren’t able to communicate with their loved ones overseas.

Yoder says today, they’re relieved.

“They arrived there two or three hours, I understand, before the storm actually started to hit land and they were able to safely get inside a hotel and be safe through that initial portion,” said Yoder.

A parent of one of the members says the team is doing great and they will return on November 19.
