EUGENE, Ore. — An elderly Eugene couple was seriously injured Monday when their vehicle veered of Hwy. 126 and rolled several times.
Around 4:25 p.m. on Monday, a 1988 Ford Escort driven by 78-year-old Bill Hamby, of Eugene, was westbound on Hwy. 126 near Goble Lane when, according to witnesses, the vehicle crossed the highway into the opposite ditch and rolled multiple times.
Hamby, and his wife, 76-year-old Betty Hamby, who was the passenger, were extricated from the car by Eugene Fire and Rescue. Mr. Hamby was transported by LifeFlight with critical injuries to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. Mrs. Hamby was transported by ambulance to the same hospital with serious injuries.
Oregon State Police is continuing its investigation into the cause of the crash.
