EUGENE, Ore. — A home invasion robbery rattled a North Eugene neighborhood and Eugene Police. Officers are looking for the man who broke into a home and sexually assaulted the 84-year-old woman who lived there.
After the attack, the suspect stole the victim’s car. It’s a dark blue Hyundai Elantra, similar to the one shown above, with Oregon license plate 922 DKD. The victim’s family added the car has a crack on its windshield running straight up and down.
“It’s a particularly brutal and upsetting crime,” said Eugene Police Lt. Doug Mozan. “Eugene Police are actively working leads. We are trying to find the suspect.”
“It’s a very cowardly thing to do, particularly preying on an elderly person, but no one should have to go through this,” the victim’s son told KEZI 9 News. “In times like this, everybody needs to pull together. That’s what we’re trying to do.”
The crime startled residents in the upscale neighborhood near the intersection of Coburg Road and Cal Young Road.
“It’s too bad something like that happened,” said neighbor Steve Cheek. “Makes you wonder what’s going on. What can you do to protect yourself and neighbor watching after neighbor, to me, is the best thing we can do.”
That’s what the neighborhood plans to do to move on. As for the victim’s son, he just wants the guy caught so his mother can do the same.
“She’s doing very well. Surprisingly well. She’s a strong woman,” said her son. “She’s been through a lot, and she’ll get through this.”
