EUGENE, Ore.– The Emeralds found themselves down early after starter Logan Jernigan allowed a single and a double in the 1st. Boise CF Rashad Crawford singled and stole second base with one out before cleanup man Danny Canela drove him in with a double to the wall in left. After the 1st inning, Jernigan would allow just one more hit and one walk through 4 innings while striking out 4.
The Ems got the offense going in the 3rd when SS Franchy Cordero split the gap in left-center for a one-out triple. The next batter, CF Auston Bousfield, picked up an RBI single to tie the game but the Ems weren’t done. The next four batters would all hit safely and when the dust settled the Ems collected three runs on six consecutive hits to take a 3-1 lead.
The score stayed that way into the 6th when Marcus Davis belted an 0-1 pitch into the right field bullpen for a solo shot. It was home run number 7 on the year for Davis, tying him for the league lead with the right fielder whose head he hit it over, Jeffrey Baez.
Eugene added one more run in the 7th using singles from Bousfield and Davis to setup 1st and 3rd with two down. Nick Torres bounced one to short and Jason Vosler booted it giving Eugene a 5-1 lead.
Sam Holland came on to pitch the 9th inning and after a one-out single and a throwing error on Holland himself, Boise was one base runner away from bringing the tying run to the plate. With Charlie White up and a run already in, Holland fell behind 3-0 in the count. Holland was able to come back and get three straight strikes to get White swinging to end the ballgame.
The two clubs have split the first two games of the series with the rubber match scheduled for 5:01pm Sunday. Tickets are available at EmeraldsBaseball.com or you can visit the PK Park Box Office after 10am.
