EUGENE, OR – Riding a three-game losing streak, it looked like more of the same after three innings Thursday night when the Ems offense had been held hitless and managed just two baserunners. In the bottom of the 4th, 1st round pick Hunter Renfroe led off with a single and Trae Santos followed with a double to right center. Fernando Perez drove in the game’s first run with a ground out to second base and Henry Charles came through with a big 2-out RBI double making it 2-0 Emeralds. Eugene added another run in the 5th when Felipe Blanco doubled to start the frame. The Ems then executed small ball to perfection with a sacrifice bunt from Ronnie Richardson followed by a sac fly from Edwin Moreno.
Ems starter Jimmy Brazoban threw five strong innings for the fifth time in six starts this season. He allowed just three hits and three walks. His only run allowed came in the 6th when he walked the leadoff man only to be pulled for reliever Kyle Lloyd. Lloyd struck out the first man that he faced but then walked Justin Seager to set up a two-run double off the bat of top prospect DJ Peterson. Everett would tie the game in the 7th by utilizing a pair of walks issued by Ems right hander Michael Kelly. Michael Faulkner would come in to score on a wild pitch making it 3-3.
In the last of the 7th another leadoff double from Blanco setup a go ahead RBI single for Edwin Moreno. Moreno would come in to score on a wild pitch from reliever Aaron Brooks making it 5-3. Everett’s Richard White came on to pitch the 8th and Michael Bass greeted him with a one-out double to left. He would score four batters later when White uncorked another wild pitch with a runner on third.
Adam Cimber closed it out in the 9th for his third save of the season. The Ems and Aqua Sox have split the first two games of the series and will be back it for game three of the five game set Friday night starting at 7:05pm.
