EUGENE, Ore. — The Eugene Police Department’s new downtown substation opened its doors for walk-ins this week.
The new substation is located right across the street from the bus station and library.
Although the front counter will be staffed with volunteers, it’s not yet because the station hasn’t been very busy.
“We really haven’t had much walk-in traffic yet because I don’t think a lot of people are aware that we’re here and or that they can park in the parking structures for the first hour at no cost,” said Tonee Webber, Downtown Public Safety Program Manager.
There are three garages near the substation and bike racks right outside for any cyclists.
Since relocating to the substation, downtown officers say they have greatly cut down on emergency response times.

It’s amazing what the police can afford (when they have been crying poor mouth for a few years now) when they want to ….
