EUGENE, Ore. — The Eugene Police Department is concerned about some recent pedestrian fatality accidents, and that’s why officers staged a traffic sting Thursday.
Bicycle officers focused on Broadway around Willamette and Olive streets.
Officers say they notice a lot of people rolling through stop signs and not stopping at them altogether, both bikes and cars. They say pedestrians are also ignoring some of the signs.
“My concern is always when I see that is that someone is going to get hit. I ride a bike to work, I ride a bike at work and I don’t want to see someone get run over, so that’s really why we are down here,” said Officer Bo Rankin, Eugene Police Department.
Some issued tickets for violation, but they say their end goal is awareness.
