NEWPORT, Ore. — Police caught a Philomath man who escaped from custody on his way to jail.
Asa Allan Williams, 24, appeared before a judge Tuesday morning regarding a DUII charge. He hadn’t yet been to jail. There the judge ordered Williams to stay at the Lincoln County Jail to await his next court date, but as he was being escorted to the jail, Williams escaped.
Residents were alerted about the situation through an emergency notification system.
Newport police arrested Williams a short time later. He was charged with second-degree escape and second-degree criminal trespass.
