Eugene Airport Turns 70 Years Old

EUGENE, Ore. — The Eugene Airport celebrated a major milestone Wednesday: 70 years of commercial flights.

United Airlines was the first scheduled flight back in 1943.

The airport kicked off its celebration Wednesday morning with cake and a live band.

The director says Eugene’s airport is a vital part of the community.

“It’s great. It’s great for the community. The airport is an economic engine for the community. It helps drive the economy. So 70 years old and growing fast, we’re happy to be a support to the community and be here for everyone,” said Tim Doll, Airport Director.

By mid-June the airport will have six airlines with the addition of Frontier and American Airlines–that’s the most ever at one time.
