EUGENE, Ore. — A chef from Eugene took home first place, winning the Iron Chef Oregon competition for the second year in a row.
Jeff Strom, the owner of Koho Bistro in Eugene, competed against eight other chefs from around the state.
The chefs compete in a timed cook-off where they’re given specific ingredients on the fly and have to prepare three dishes in 30 minutes. Strom says the competition is fierce.
“I think I lost 10 pounds. I didn’t sleep. I didn’t eat. I was so nervous, but that kind of stopped, so, but I obsessed about it and kind of came up with a game plan and that was it. That was how I won the first one, and that’s how I won this one,” Strom said.
Strom says his wife inspired him to compete last year, and he says he plans to compete one more time next year.
