Eugene city councilors unanimously approved a land lease for the Bethel branch–a whopping $1 a year for the 25-year lease.
The executive director says now the fundraising can begin.
It’s looking to raise $5 million over the next two to three years for the first phase of the project. The 25,000-square-foot facility would include a gym, fitness center, childcare, a meeting room, and a Bethel branch library.
“We are excited about it. We actually started having the discussion over 10 years ago, and we’ve gone through a couple of different school boards and district staff and city councilors staff. And to get to this point took a long time,” said Dave Perez, YMCA Executive Director.
The Y wouldn’t likely open to the public for four to five years. The Y director says there is also a tentative agreement to purchase the Roosevelt site by the middle of June.
