EUGENE, Ore. — Runners from around the world and their families now have an official weekend to return to the birthplace of jogging in America. Run TrackTown, a weekend celebration of running featuring the Eugene Marathon, debuts July 26-27, 2014 at Hayward Field in Eugene.

TrackTown USA and the Eugene Marathon announced plans to collaborate on the annual summer event. Saturday’s schedule will feature a 5-kilometer race in addition to an all-comers meet and 1-kilometer race for boys and girls. Named a ‘Best of the Best’ race by Runner’s World in their January 2013 edition, the Eugene Marathon and Half-Marathon will take place on Sunday, July 27. Once again the races will finish on the track of Historic Hayward Field, one of the most iconic track and field stadiums in the world.

Hayward Field hosts the IAAF World Junior Championships on July 22-27, 2014. The international track and field competition will feature the world’s best athletes under the age of 20 from 212 countries. With the movement of the Eugene Marathon to the last weekend of July, two premier events will take place in a community famous for the sports of track and field and road running.

“In the Run TrackTown weekend our primary focus will be catering to the runner’s experience,” said Vin Lananna, President of TrackTown USA and Associate Athletic Director of Olympic Development at the University of Oregon. “By offering an all-comers meet for boys and girls in addition to road races and hosting them all on the same weekend as the IAAF World Junior Championships, we hope to connect the road running and track and field communities. Hayward Field is the perfect venue for fostering those connections.”

“The Eugene Marathon believes this will be the ultimate weekend experience for runners and their families,” says Eugene Marathon founder and organizer Andy Heily. “The country doesn’t have a premier summer marathon. Moving our race fills this void and allows runners to train during spring and early summer. Plus, the weather will be ideal for fast times.”

Registration for the Eugene Marathon will begin on September 9 at EugeneMarathon.com. Additional details about Run TrackTown will be released in the coming months at RunTrackTown.com.
