Eugene Neighborhood Builds Sidewalk

EUGENE, Ore. — A west Eugene neighborhood took action to make their community safer Saturday. A group of Churchill-area neighbors got together to build a sidewalk near Acorn Park.

Everyone from children to local politicians grabbed shovels and helped the effort.

Tom Schneider, leader of the Churchill Walkability Action Team, says the absence of sidewalks poses a risk for serious injuries because people end up walking in the street.

“Fortunately nobody has been hit yet but when you see cars weaving around people and everything it causes concern,” said Schneider.

Scheider says many people walk because the neighborhood is close to many retail stores on West 11th Avenue. He hopes there will be more sidewalks built.
