EUGENE, Ore. — As those in Britain rejoiced the arrival of the royal baby boy, Eugene locals also celebrated the birth of the third in line to the throne.
Employees at First Way, an organization that provides support and services to pregnant women in Eugene, said many of their patients were happy for the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton and Prince William.
“I thought it was great,” said Naidine Harris, who is expecting her sixth child. “Every one of my kids has been a pride and joy, and I can only imagine what it’s like for them to be first-time parents.”
Kate was not the only one in labor Monday, Labor and Delivery nurses at RiverBend Hospital in Springfield reported six births before 2 p.m. There were no reports of parents naming their new babies after royal family members, but nurses said there were a few couples who could not help being excited about the big day.
“They were going to write in the baby book that it was the same day as the royal family,” said Labor and Delivery Nurse Misty Villalobos of one expectant family. “So that was pretty cool. They had a girl.”
Staff members also said that while the royal birth has been getting a lot of attention, they find joy in every birth they see or hear about.
