EUGENE, Ore. — It’s the end of an era on Coburg Road. Crews began tearing down the closed Red Lion Hotel this week.

Seven people are working to clear the buildings. It will take 40 to 60 days to complete the project as they are recycling materials as they go.

Back in December, the Red Lion Hotels Corporation in Spokane announced it would close. The hotel had been here more than 50 years. With 137 rooms close to Autzen Stadium, it was a popular place for sports fans in town for football and other sporting events.

The closure last month left 46 workers out of a job and some nearby businesses without customers.

Natural Grocers plans to open a brand new store by September.

As for Red Lion, it hopes to find a new spot to open in Eugene.
