Eugene School Resource Officer Honored

7-14 CHURCHILL AWARDEUGENE, Ore. — An officer earned a high honor for stopping an armed suspect outside of Churchill High School last year.

On Nov. 30, Officer Aaron Johns was conducting a traffic stop when the suspect fled into the school’s parking lot armed with two weapons. After a struggle, Officer Johns shot and killed the suspect.

On Monday, Officer Johns earned the medal of valor from the National Association of School Resource Officers.

The association said he displayed extraordinary bravery and his actions protected the safety of Churchill students and staff.
