Eugene Skate Park Construction Begins

EUGENE, Ore. — A new $2.5 million skate park in downtown Eugene is about to become reality.

More than six years in the works, construction began Monday on the 23,000-square-foot park, which will be covered and lit by the Washington-Jefferson Bridge.

Construction is expected to last seven or eight months depending on the weather.

“This is day one. So we’re taking down the trees. Tomorrow (Tuesday) we’ll fence off the project. We’ll start tearing out the concrete and putting in the underground utilities, and then we’ll start building the park,” said Duane Strickland, Project Manager.

In June, a 40-year-old playground was removed from the existing park.
